A proud Cornishman David has been involved with the Coal Trade Benevolent Association since 1969.
He was Chairman of the Devon & Cornwall branch in 1986 and 1993 and took over as their Secretary on the death of Peter Clemo in February 2018. He was first appointed a National Director in 1987 until 1998 and then reappointed in 2018.
As well as running the family retail business from 1968 -2002, he served as a local magistrate for 32 years becoming the Chairman of the Cornwall Bench.
Sport has always been a vital part of his life representing Cornwall at soccer and cricket and only recently giving up playing the latter for the village team after 64 years. He was Chairman of Cornwall FA for several years but spends his weekends now as a season ticket holder at Exeter Chiefs.
He has always been an active member of the community being involved in various executive roles and fundraising for local organisations. In 1984 along with other members of Round Table cycled from John O’Groats to Lands End raising funds for a new ward at Bodmin Hospital.
On selling the business in 2002 retirement was out of the question and he took up the post of Clerk to the local Parish Council.
Along with partner Sandy their leisure time is spent enjoying live sport and theatre and exploring the coastal walks of Devon and Cornwall.
