The Coal Trade Benevolent Association is a national charity, supporting former members or those currently employed; that find themselves in financial difficulties and struggling to provide for their basic needs on low incomes. This may be due to serious illness, disability or through accident suffered while at work.
The Association assists people who worked in the distributive arm of our great industry and allied industries, for instance those who were employed by a coal merchant. This support also extends to their surviving spouse and their families.
Assistance to our beneficiaries is provided by a nationwide network of voluntary case visitors, and supported by local branches of the Association. Once assisted, the CTBA will maintain contact with those beneficiaries for as long as the need is required.
We have been providing this support since 1888.
